SONGS FOR DEAD SAILORS

This project centered around a deeply evocative album composed and performed by Toby Wren and his band. An exploration of love, loss, and the quiet acceptance of the inevitable, all framed within the romantic and rugged era of sea farers. The album carries an emotional weight and narrative arc, weaving together a sonic journey of the human experience. My role in this collaboration was to engage with the music on a visceral level, listening intently, interpreting the lyrical and instrumental nuances, and connecting with the stories beneath the surface. From there, I translated these emotional and thematic elements into visual compositions, designed specifically to be projected behind the band during live performances. The aim was to create an immersive experience for the audience, where sound and image worked in harmony to amplify the narrative power of the music.

The albums debut was performed at the Brisbane Powerhouse as part of the OHM Festival 2025.

Toby Wren - Songs For Dead Sailors
The sea, the sea
Counting sails
Guts
The good and the dead
At last lost love
The passing hours
A mirror, a glass
Oh, Janine!
The storm
The light below
Songs for sailors
